The future of retail is a high-stakes game right now and Shoptalk 2025 was the ultimate strategy session. Our team of measurement experts were on the front lines diving deep into the conversations that matter most, and the message was loud and clear: Customers are in control, the omnichannel experience is non-negotiable, and today’s retail marketers need to deliver seamless, personalized experiences across every quantifiable touchpoint while simultaneously proving the ROI of their efforts – because every marketing dollar counts in an uncertain economy.
Here’s what the Measured team heard on the ground at Shoptalk:
The AI Revolution:
AI’s accelerated integration into the retail space was (unsurprisingly) a prominent topic, with panel and informal discussions exploring how AI-driven solutions are transforming retail operations, enhancing customer experiences, and driving growth. While general AI hype has cooled, there's a strong focus on the practical, customer-facing applications of generative AI, particularly in enhancing online discovery and ecommerce engagement.
Economic Headwinds:
With economic fluctuations impacting all business sectors, retailers are placing their focus on providing customer value while maintaining profitability. This means exploring innovative pricing and customer relationship strategies in anticipation of how looming tariffs and shifting trade policies could affect supply chain and product inventory.
Metrics That Matter
As marketers navigate the challenges of a new retail landscape, there were many discussions on how to adopt a media measurement practice that resonates with the C-suite and impacts business in a tangible way. It was clear that media measurement, in particular incrementality experimentation, is a significant topic of interest within the retail marketing community.
Moving Beyond Attribution Models:
Retail brands are increasingly recognizing the importance of incrementality to accurately measure the true impact of marketing campaigns at a time when traditional attribution models are unable to provide a clear and accurate picture of which marketing efforts are genuinely driving sales.
Retail Media's Ascendance:
As RMNs continue to blur the lines between commerce and advertising, a call for more accurate measurement is growing among retail marketers to ensure that media investments are truly effective, particularly in a climate of economic volatility where every dollar counts.
Brand Authenticity and Personalization
In an era of information overload, brands are increasingly prioritizing authentic connections with consumers, emphasizing transparency, values, and social responsibility. Many conversations at Shoptalk emphasized the growing importance of hyper-personalization in online shopping experiences, with a focus on leveraging data analytics to tailor every customer touchpoint.
Fixing the Marketing Funnel:
As one of the biggest challenges for today’s retail brands – big and small – achieving high-performance full-funnel allocation is a major pain point. Many brands are waking up to the fact that their marketing funnel performance is broken and wasting crucial media dollars at a time when they a need strong, more reliable upper-funnel investment strategy to drive better business outcomes.
Woman in Retail Pavilion
This year Measured sponsored the Women in Retail Pavilion, and to a packed house of Shoptalk attendees, our very own Ali Scullion interviewed Noelle Sadler, VP of Global Marketing at PacSun, exploring how she navigates the balance between creativity and data, and her priorities as a woman in leadership at such a pivotal and exciting time for the PacSun brand.

Measured hosted VIP networking dinners in partnership with New Engen and Meta at Carbone & Jean Georges Steakhouse during ShopTalk 2025, bringing together experts in digital marketing to share learnings, best practices, and tactical advice.

And just for fun, this year we sponsored the largest piece of multi-media real estate at the event with a Measured-branded video wall!
